What’s your excuse?

It’s been said that witnessing to another person, or sharing the gospel, is simply one poor man telling another poor man from whence he got his bread. If you purchased some life changing remedy for something, or a gadget that made your life insanely better, wouldn’t you want to shout it from the rooftops? We share these kinds of things on social media! Posting before and after pictures, even joining up with companies sometimes to be an “ambassador” of their company, because we have fallen so in love with their product. Do we feel the same about Christ? Hasn’t he changed your life in glorious ways since you’ve been saved? I wonder why we hold ourselves back from sharing this Difference-maker with others.

We all have excuses for why we don’t, won’t, shouldn’t, or can’t share the gospel with others. “It’s not the right time”, or “I don’t really know how they’ll react”, or “It’s not the right time or place”. Perhaps it is something more serious like “I might lose my job if I share the gospel while I’m working.” Whatever our excuses (and fears) may be, I’m here to tell you – God doesn’t want you to worry about those things. He wants us to totally rely on Him and have faith that he will give us the words and the right opportunities to be a witness for him.

Moses tried to tell God he couldn’t speak to others about Him, too! Look at God’s reply:

11 And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

Exodus 4:11-12

So what has you hesitating to talk to someone about Christ? You don’t have to plan a sermon. You don’t even need to have a formal, planned out conversation! Just acknowledge God in your life. Tell others the good things He has done for you, and what He wants to do for them if they will allow Him!

This is my prayer continually, and my goal is to memorize these verses and live by them:

19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Ephesians 6:19-20
