Apathetic: void of feeling, free from passion or emotion, feeling or showing a lack of interest or concern.
Today’s post is just a reminder that the Christian life is not one to be lived on the sidelines. There are some things we must be passionate about, as Christ is/was passionate about them.
A life of ease is not a life that will please.
And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.
Zechariah 1:11, 15
And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.
When we are too at ease about what is going on in this world, and we sit down and take the stance of “oh well, what does it matter what I think anyway?” God is not happy. We are called to be difference makers. We are world changers. We can’t make a difference or change the world from our comfy couches.
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Colossians 3:23
A life of too much playing will lead to lesser praying.
And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
Exodus 32:6-8
And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:
They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
Play and free time can become an addiction. Life is all about balance! We must work, and we must have time for rest. But when the play time or rest time outweighs the work time, and we get careless or lazy where the work of the Lord is concerned, our balance has been disrupted.
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31
A trust in self will cause a loss of wealth.
Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!
Amos 6:1, 4-7
That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;
That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;
That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.
When we take our eyes off God, and don’t acknowledge his hand of blessings upon our lives, we risk being judged by God. When all we focus on are our blessings, and we don’t see the great need of those around us for salvation, we have failed. We must remember: all that we have, and all that we are is because of HIM! Had it not been for the blessing of God on our lives, we would be/have nothing! We can do nothing, have nothing and be nothing in our own power. God allows and provides all the goods and all the wealth and riches we ever will have! Never fail to give all glory to God for his goodness. And share with others where your wealth comes from – no matter how great or small you feel that wealth is!
Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Psalm 107:8
