It’s something every person struggles with. But why? Sin… When Eve allowed the lies of the serpent to taint her trust in what God had said about eating of the fruit of the tree in the midst of the garden, she ceased to trust. Before then she had perfect trust. She knew who God was. She had seen Him walking in the cool of the day in the garden with Adam. She knew that God created every single thing that was freely hers. She knew that God had made her and breathed life into her. There was no reason for her to not have full reliance or confidence that what her Creator had commanded about this forbidden tree was not true. She knew she could trust His Word. BUT When everything evil began to make her question God’s Word, she let that filth of the wicked one change her.
Genesis 3 is such a devastating chapter in the Bible to me. It breaks me to know Eve had everything and yet she chose to give it all away because for what some liar said. Can you imagine ladies giving birth without the pain? Can you imagine living in a place where you are never afraid? Everything is provided, no need for anything? There’s complete reliance on the Lord and you have no reason to wonder about or care about anything? You don’t even know how to fear or question, you just trust-God and your husband, others. Eve destroyed it all when she allowed some things to come into her heart and change her life. I believe we can live in complete trust if we guard ourselves from these snares and lies of the devil.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Genesis 3:6
Protect Your Trust in God by Watching What You Eat. Eve looked on the fruit and saw that it was good for food. It appealed to her flesh. She began to get an appetite for it. I’m sure it made her mouth water. Ladies this applies to so much more than the food we put into our mouths. This is also what we digest spiritually. Do we have to have the things of the world to have full trust in God? No, Jesus said if we have food and clothes, then we need to be content. He didn’t say be content if you have the finest of foods or the trendiest of clothes. No, be satisfied if you only have rice and beans, and the clothes on your back. Make sure the things you’re salivating over are things that truly matter. Colossians 3:2 says “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” Make sure you’re on a spiritual diet and only eating the things that will grow you closer to Christ and make you trust Him more.
Protect Your Trust in God by Wearing Protective Eyewear. The serpent handed Eve some very dirty glasses to look through. She began to see the fruit on the tree differently. Our view of things of this world, of church, God’s man, our sister’s in Christ or the lost can be clouded if we are only seeing what is good and pleasant for us. How we see things will affect our trust in our Lord. If we look at it by what someone does for us and if the Lord only allows good things to come into our lives, then we are not looking through the glasses of His Word. Every thing does not revolve around or is about us. It is all about Him. If we pick up His Word daily, stay in a constant state of prayer and look through the Light of His Love then there is no room for lust to dwell. We will desire and want only things that will strengthen our trust in the Lord. Psalm 40:4 says, “Blessed is the man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respect not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.” Purpose to wear and keep your protective eyewear clean through His Word.
Protect Your Trust in God by Warring Against the Whisperer Eve looked at the tree and thought if this whisperer is right and God’s Word is wrong then I’ll be like God. There is one thing to long to be like Christ and be made into His image. That means you long to be holy, righteous, loving, compassionate, merciful, pure, gracious and the list goes on, and there is another thing to be lifted up to be as God. To think that you are as wise as He is, and that you know it all. Putting yourself up on His throne is devilish and is the silent killer called pride. It’s what satan was cast out of heaven for. In the service of our Lord there is no room for pride. Self righteousness breeds rebellion in that we know better. “If I was Pastor I would do it this way in the church.” “If I was the Sunday School teacher I would teach it this way.” ” If I were the boss, I tell you what I would do for my employees, etc…” This arrogance leads to a know it all attitude, you’re better than everyone in church and especially those who don’t have the same standards as you. They haven’t grown in Christ like I have, etc… You see how easily this nasty whisperer creeps in and we have to be on constant guard to fight it off. Not one person is exempt from pride and self righteousness. We all think we are better than someone else by the clothes we wear, by the house we live in, the car we drive. It creeps in simply by small areas like the make up we wear, our hair, or the job we have or that we are a stay at home wife/mom. This way of thinking is devilish and it destroys. It destroys us and relationships around us. Fight with humility. We are all nobodys, saved by a Some Body who is LOVES everybody! If there is any good in us it is Him. We have nothing to be proud of. In 1 Corinthians 9:26-27 “I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” Fight daily against yourself and pride. If you are praying as the publican who saw his worth and how much he was in need of the Saviour, there will be no room for the pride of the Pharisees.
My sisters, our trust begins first in the Lord. Guard it, fight for it, grow it. It’s the key that opens every other door of trust in our lives.
Trust brings peace and happiness in every relationship we have.
Trust is a repellant for the lies of the enemy.
There is blessings that await in trust.
O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
Psalm 84:12
