What an interesting post for a Christian women’s blog page, you may be thinking. I know, but hear me out – the “science” about dinosaurs we all learned at an early age is just one of the lies the devil uses to create doubt in our minds about the Bible. While I am at it, I may as well inform you that unicorns ARE real, fire breathing dragons DID exist, and humans are NOT mammals! Maybe I should have told you to sit down before reading this post.
The lies we are taught in science class:
- Dinosaurs lived millions of years ago.
- Some dinosaurs evolved into other things.
- A massive asteroid or comet struck earth, causing a shift in the climate and mass extinction of dinosaurs.
- Dinosaurs once ruled the earth.
- Dinosaurs were the most successful creatures ever to colonize the earth.
- Dinosaurs lived at the same time as some early mammals.
Let’s use scripture to disprove some of this “science”, shall we?
Lie: Dinosaurs lived millions of years ago
The truth is, the Earth itself is only somewhere close to 6,000 years old. I know, huge difference, right? The way we find this out is by using scripture in Genesis. In Genesis 1:1-5 we see the account of when God created the Earth. Later in Genesis 5 & 11 we see a genealogy from Adam (the first man) to Abraham. All we have to do then is add up years from Abraham to today.
Adam created to when Abraham lived= ~2,000 yr
When Abraham lived to today = +~4,000 yr
Total of= ~6,000 yr
So how do scientists come up with the number “millions of years”? When the flood occurred in Noah’s day, everything on earth was destroyed. The entire landscape of the Earth changed. Many dinosaur fossils they find have been buried under layers of rock, dirt, and earth. Scientists assume these layers of earth are created slowly over time. We know from the Bible that the catastrophic event of the flood caused these rock layers. Lie: Many dinosaurs evolved into birds
As Christians, we know to question anything that contains the word “evolution”. There is no creature living on earth that has ‘evolved’ from any other creature. God made everything just the way he wanted it. He made no mistakes. A bird is a bird. A dinosaur is a dinosaur. Once again, if we look at the days of creation in Genesis 1 we will find our rebuttal for this “scientific” lie.
And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
Genesis 1:20
Sea life and birds, or the “flying creatures” were spoken into existence on day 5 of creation. Dinosaurs, (which means terrible lizard) or “land creatures” were created on day 6. This alone disproves scientists theory that dinosaurs evolved into birds. Birds were created first.
Lie: A massive asteroid or comet struck Earth and caused a mass extinction of dinosaurs
I refer you back to lie rebuttal number one. It was not a massive asteroid or comet that changed Earth’s climate, it was a massive flood. The only land animals that survived this flood were the ones on the ark with Noah and his family. The climate on Earth changed post flood, and the environment was more harsh for some animals to survive in than others. Perhaps this is what led to the extinction of some dinosaurs. Also, we cannot forget that sin (thanks to the curse placed on Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden) led to sickness, disease, and death. This contributes to the extinction of many animals, even today as well.
Lie: Dinosaurs once ruled the Earth
I think I will allow scripture to answer this one. No animal has ever ruled the earth. Check out this verse God spoke to the very first man and woman, Adam and Eve in the book of Genesis:
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the Earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Genesis 1:28
Lie: Dinosaurs were the most successful creatures to colonize the Earth
Perhaps the best rebuttal to this is to simply point out: man still lives here, dinosaurs are extinct. End of argument.
Lie: Dinosaurs lived at the same time as some early mammals
Dinosaurs lived at the same time as all other mammals. We have already said that, based on Genesis 1:24-25, all land animals were created on day 6 of creation. This means dinosaurs, mice, lions, dogs, koalas, etc. all lived at the same time. AND, as a bonus tidbit of information – EVERY animal only ate plants at the time of creation. (As did Adam and Eve!) My how sin changed EVERYTHING for us.
