That Lot!

What is that one thing that seems to be weighing you down? What is it that keeps you from taking that next step in obedience to the Lord? We all have things that we allow to come between our daily walk with the Lord.

As you hop into this hot air balloon with me, I pray you ask the Spirit of the Lord to show you what “Lot” you need to cut the anchor to.

What a beautiful day for a time of relaxation in the clear skies. Nothing but the wind and God’s creation. All of a sudden as the balloon starts to take off you feel a jerk of something holding you back. Immediately, you look over the edge to see what is keeping you from moving forward. Whatever it is you want that rope cut because you know that what lies ahead will bring peace and refreshing as you soar through the clouds.

In Genesis 11, We read of a man who began a journey of separation. He took his wife and nephew to began a path that God had promised to bring great blessings. Little did he know that an anchor stopped him in his tracks. It began to cause strife in his home, amongst his family and his everyday life. Abram could have ignored the “anchor” that was weighing him down. Instead he chose to leave some “Lots” behind in pursuit of the Blessings of His God.

And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him….

Genesis 13:14

Abram’s weight was Lot.

What is “That Lot” in your life?

A “Lot” is anything that you fall back on. Whether it be for comfort, to satisfy the flesh, or you just don’t want to part with. It is a veil of separation so to speak. Lots come in many different shapes and sizes. They come as family, as friends, co-workers, as our technology devices, and so on. It’s anything that keeps us from going forward for God.

We have to realize that Just because God has allowed us to do it, doesn’t mean He approves of it. What do I mean here? God allowed Abram to bring Lot his brother’s son with him from the land of Ur (Genesis 11:31) Abram was leaving his father and everything he knew to set out on a journey in obedience. God didn’t stop him right away and say “Nope, Lot can’t go!” No, God allowed him to journey so far and then there came a time to leave “That Lot” behind. Lot’s decision and his own weight was holding down Abram. Is there someone or something in your life that keeps tripping you up? Don’t let “That Lot” hold you back from serving God.

Secondly we have to remember that Strife will always exist where separation from God continues. There was strife among the herdmen. I’m sure Lot began to sow seeds of discontent, doubt and debate among the servants. It became such a problem, Abram came to Lot to address it. (Genesis 13:6-9) We read in Genesis 13:10 that Lot began to look on the things of the world. He wanted his home to be there so much that he left God’s blessings to what he thought was a well watered plain. We all know what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19. Once “That Lot” was separated from Abram, the strife ceased in his home. Don’t be guilty of listening to strife or partaking of another friend or family’s worldliness because you don’t want to hurt them. Let go of “That Lot” of strife and allow peace to guide your journey.

Lastly, we have to remember that God will not reveal what is next in your life until you finish what is now. You have to come to the point that you actually cut the tie to “That Lot” and separate yourself unto the Lord. 2 Corinthians 6:17 says “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,” Abram removed his tent, left that place and built there an altar to the LORD. You have to come to the altar and lay it down. Then and only then can you move forward into the blessings of His Presence. Cutting ties and letting go of “That Lot” in your life hurts but grace is abundant when we leave it at the altar. It was after Abram left “That Lot” that the Lord revealed His promise to Abram in Genesis 15.

You will never be all that you can or need to be for the Lord until you let go of “That Lot” in your Life.

My sisters, I pray that as we have soared the clear skies today you’ve made the decision to leave some “Lots” behind and continue on your journey in His Blessings!

There’s nothing like serving Jesus, wholeheartedly, no strings or “Lots” attached! Let Go and Let God!
