Thoughts about walking together…

Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

Amos 3:3

The only way to walk together with God is to agree with him. Agree on your destination. (Heaven!) Agree on the route to get there. (Salvation in none other than Jesus!) Agree to walk together no matter what. (Wherever His will takes me!) But the Holy Spirit has given me other thoughts on this verse (and a couple other similar verses) over the last week. I want to share these thoughts with you in no special order, and without a fancy format. Just sharing what He has laid on my heart. 💜 I hope it is a challenge and an encouragement to you this week!

In Amos 3:3 the word walk means to walk/grow/prosper together with. The word agreed means fixed together/betrothed/committed as in marriage. When we walk together with others they should be those who sharpen us in spiritual/scriptural matters. Your friends and fellow Church members, etc. should encourage you and help you grow in the Lord. If you are going to join yourself to another (in friendship, marriage, ministry, etc.) make sure you are agreed in Biblical matters. Unfortunately Satan can use even small differences to drive a wedge between you and your loved ones or you and God later down the road. Make your foundation solid! Don’t compromise your core beliefs in order to walk with anyone.

And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

Mark 3:25

If two are walking together and one goes in a different direction, the two are no longer walking together and no longer agreed. They become divided, or else one gets led away by the other. Be sure the ones you are walking with in life agree with you on the important things. Doctrine, salvation, God’s word.

Anytime you are walking with someone else it should be a “three-legged-race”: You, Them, & the Holy Spirit.

As a Christian, the Holy Spirit leads you and shows you right from wrong. He does this using scripture and conviction. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted from what you know is right by someone who wants to walk with you, only until they grow weary of the path you are on, and then tries to sway you from it. If you are already walking with someone else who has veered off the path of righteousness, pray for them. Pray without ceasing. God can work miracles. He can change hearts that you can’t! Let God do what He does best.

Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

2 Peter 3:17

Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments and his statutes, which I command thee this day:

Deuteronomy 8:11

Bottom line: Walk with God first, and your walk with others will be what it ought to be. Let the Holy Spirit, not friends/family/society teach you doctrine or give you standards. The Bible is the absolute authority in EVERYTHING!
