Life is Always Greater than Death: Choose Life

Warning: Today’s blog post is about a sensitive, but hot topic right now. Because it is such a “trigger” issue, I am going to leave opinion out of it (although I have a strong one) and simply tell you what God has to say about the matter of abortion.

One of the ways the devil distracts us, or appeals to our “morals”, is by changing words. What do you mean by that, you ask? Example: When someone did wrong in the Bible, it was called sin, evil or wickedness. Today, we say people are “troubled, naughty, wrong, ill”, you get the point. It sounds a lot better to say someone is troubled than to call them evil, or wicked. We call sin a mistake. We call children kids. Being with child is now just “being pregnant”, and instead of having a baby living inside your womb you have a fetus. When you choose to terminate that pregnancy (kill your baby) it is called abortion instead of murder. Do you see what I mean? The devil has us water down words so we don’t feel so bad about what we are doing.

First Things First:

When does life begin? – This is the BIG QUESTION at the center of the debate. Here is what scripture says:

So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.

Ruth 4:13

When Boaz went in unto Ruth (and they had sex) the Lord gave her conception. It was not a process that happened over time. It was immediate.

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, [and] I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Jeremiah 1:5

God has a plan for us even before we come out of our mother’s womb. He knows who we are even before he forms us in the belly. When we are in the womb we are a living soul.

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully [and] wonderfully made: marvellous [are] thy works; and [that] my soul knoweth right well.
My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, [and] curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all [my members] were written, [which] in continuance were fashioned, when [as yet there was] none of them.

Psalm 139:13-16

Even before your mother knew she was with child, and before she felt you growing and moving in her womb, God knew you were there. God made you special. Even though you were unperfect, he saw you and all your flaws – and loved you and chose to die for you anyway. (Romans 5:8)

Are you lively?

And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:
And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.
But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?
And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.
Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.
And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

Exodus 1:15-22

The word lively here means: to preserve life, vigorous, having much life. So I will ask you – are you lively? No matter what decree government signs into law, or what command comes from the king of our day and time, will you choose life? As Christians, we should choose like the Hebrew women – to preserve life! If you find yourself siding with those who are against life, or you make excuses why killing a baby is okay, you may want to check your salvation. The Bible is clear: those who follow God are not like those who follow the world/Satan. The Egyptian women (who were unsaved…not Christians) went with the king’s decree, and obeyed what he said without question. They had to “follow the law” and I’m sure the king gave them a “good reason” to follow orders without questioning his authority.

God forgives.

I know this is a sensitive subject. No matter what you’ve done, or what choices you have made – God will forgive. He is waiting simply for you to come to him with a repentant heart, and he will forgive and draw you close to him to comfort your heart. I am praying today for those women who have, perhaps been “fooled by the king” to choose death over life. I’m sorry that happened to you. It’s not too late for you to come to Jesus. He is waiting with open arms. Find your comfort and forgiveness in Him, and become a voice to teach others!
