How do I pray in uncertain times?

How do you look at prayer? Is it a constant state of thought for you? Do you talk to God throughout the day, or do you feel you need to be more in depth and intentional in your prayer time? Are your requests to God long-winded, or do you seek his hand quickly in the day to day activities of life?

I dare say our prayer life should be a combination of all these ways. The truth is, nobody has a perfect prayer life. Even the disciples had to ask Jesus to teach them how to pray. We can all use a little guidance in this area. So when times are as uncertain as they are right now for most people, how do we pray? When we don’t know WHAT to pray, what type of prayer life is best?

Pray right where you are!

I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

1 Timothy 2:8

Pray without doubting the outcome. God hears your cries. Even when you can’t see what lies ahead, He knows and has it all planned out for your good! He doesn’t tell us the road to the finish line won’t be rocky. We may stumble a few times along the way. But God loves us and hears the cries of his children.

Pray without wavering!

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

James 1:6

Don’t waver in your faith, your convictions, or your foundation. KNOW who you have believed in, and remember that He is able to finish the good work he has started in you and your life! If it’s your prayer requests that are making you waver, and feel guilty for asking them of God- perhaps they are things you shouldn’t be asking for in the first place.

Pray first of all!

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men;

1 Timothy 2:1

Prayer should always be our first line of defense. God knows us and our situations better than anyone. Talk to him about them! Don’t leave prayer as a last resort.
