Keeping the Home

Build well!

Whether you are just starting to build your family, or you are an empty nester, this is for you! A quick reminder that there are three Biblical principles to be certain of when considering your home.

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

Luke 6:47-49

Christ tells us here in Luke that whosoever hears (or reads) the Bible/Holy Spirit leading, and obeys it, is much different than the person who hears and disobeys. We venture into dangerous territory in our life when we disobey the leading of God. So what exactly is the picture painted for us in verses 47-49 of Luke 6?

Instructions from the Lord for building your home:

  1. Dig in. Realize you are making a life long commitment when getting married, starting a family, or committing yourself to the work of God. Be settled in this. The worst thing you can do is make a promise to God and then go back on your word.
  2. Make your foundation on The Rock. Psalm 89:26 says God is our father and the rock of our salvation. Be sure your foundation, and your life is secure in Christ. Are you building upon the rock of salvation? If you are unsure of that very first step, my friend the rest of your home will fall. Make your foundation steady, and strong. Building on anything else will prove catastrophic. (See verse 49 above!) If you need this rock of salvation, and firm foundation in your life please take a moment to read this page to see how easy it is to trust Christ as your savior: https://keepersofheartandhome.com/this-thing-called-salvation/
  3. Trials will come. The flood will rise. Time is not kind, and will beat against your house. Will your house be shaken? Or is it built in a way that no matter what comes, you trust God? We will never avoid problems. The sea will be rocky at times, but who is in your boat with you makes all the difference in the world!
