That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
Exodus 4:5-10
And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.
And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.
And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour [it] upon the dry [land]: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry [land].
And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
Do you ever find yourself thinking “Wow, so-and-so has a great relationship with God!”? Or perhaps you think “I wish God answered my prayers like he answers theirs!” Ask yourself this question:
Is their God your God? Is he real to you? Do you know him on a personal level?
Many times in the Bible, God is referred to as the God of Jacob, or the God of Abraham, Moses, Isaac…etc. It makes you wonder – did God seem distant to those who were talking? Maybe they looked back at how close these other men’s relationship was with God, and it felt bigger and better somehow than their own relationship with God. Take the Exodus passage above, for example. In the beginning of the passage, God is referring to himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But by the end of this passage of scripture Moses calls him “O my LORD”. What changed during the course of these 5 verses? For starters, a conversation! When is the last time you talked with God? The other thing that happened was a miracle in Moses’s life. God did some amazing things for Moses during the course of this “conversation”. What has God done in your life lately? (And what good things have happened to and around us that we fail to give God the credit for?)
Don’t settle for just reading/hearing about others’ blessings! The joy of the Lord can be real in your life, as well!
Call on Him. Trust Him. Go to Him with your weaknesses, your strengths. Your joy and your sadness. Learn of him. Then you can truly say, as David did…
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Psalm 18:2
